Its all over
So there is is, the MySpace Gig Challenge. Today it is exactly one year since we began. Phil completed his challenge a little while ago, and I like to stretch deadlines to the limit to completed it yesterday. It doesn’t mean that we’re going to stop going to gigs, it just means that we can be a little more choosy.
Anyway in order to celebrate our achievement we’re off to Canada to spend 2 weeks playing in the snow!
Posted by andybell on March 24, 2007We’re still here!! – Muse + Killers + Reccommended Bands
It’s been ages since I wrote anything on here, but the gig challenge is still going strong. I’m pretty sure Andy has been keeping the site up to date with the bands we’ve seen. I’m now on 167 with Andy a little behind on 157, so the end is in sight!
We’ve probably just seen the top 2 gigs of the challenge, possibly of all time in Muse and The Killers (little reviews in the reviews pages).
I’ve also done another little round up of some of the other good bands we’ve seen in the past few weeks, so be sure to check that out in the reviews pages too!
Laters!

Phil you ding
Well that was an exciting night. We’ve just returned from a night of band watching, unfortunately there wasn’t actually any bands though because they were on this afternoon. (To be fair to Phil the website did say from 8pm, but it lied.) So I’ve spent the past few hours making 2 pints of coke last as long as possible. The only plus thing to come from the night was a nice chicken tikka kebab from Spice on the way back to the car. We really must do if bit more research in future. We’ve been out for the past two nights and have successfully racked up a further zero bands.

Cowbells
If you don’t know me then this won’t make sense, if you do then you’ll know exactly why I love this.

Just so you know
I’ve decided to switch web hosts due to a few unreliability issues, this will cause some problems with my sites while the switch takes place, I’ll try and keep disruption to a minimum, but if there are periods when the sites not accessible, now you know why.
Cheers

Help “The Good Die Young”!
Hey there, remember “the Good Die Young”?. The myspace gig challenge crew raved about this band a little while ago – check out the reviews on Pages 5 and 6 in the reviews section of our currently very busted website.
Well, they need your help. They are in talks with a number of record labels, and need to up their myspace friend quota to help them get signed. So, get yourself over to myspace, create a profile if you don’t already have one, and get them added to your friends list – http://www.myspace.com/thegooddieyoungmusic . Do it, and do it now!!!

Long time no speak!
Yeah, it’s been a while. Things are still ticking over on the gig challenge front. Whilst Andy has hit a bit of a monetary road block, I’ve been ploughing on through the clever use of credit cards, and not spending money doing anything else.
I have been pretty rubbish on the reviews front, but one day I hope to catch up. Maybe this week, maybe this weekend. I’m currently hiding from online action so as to catch up with my life and other very philosophical things, so maybe in the meantime I’ll get some inspiration to write some reviews.
I have been keeping the band lists up to date though, so check that out for the latest entries into the MSGC hall of fame!
Peace out.

Baby Strange – Go see!
I have to take a moment to shamlessly plug a band we have been to see a couple of times recently.
“Baby Strange. They play rock & roll plain and simple, and make no apologies. The influences are definitely there – Rolling Stones, a splash of Bowie and the driving, hook-laden rock of the British Invasion. But they’re not affecting any bullshit accents, and they’re not afraid to strip away the frills to play music that’s as raw as it is unapologetic. Mixing this kind of heat with the lost art of strong, smart lyrics results in the kind of product that seems many bands have lost under a wave of trend and pretension”
On top of that, they are a top bunch of lads. Get yourself to one of their shows, buy their CD, and EP and a T-shirt and tell them the Gig Challenge guys sent you!
Check out their latest UK tour dates on their myspage page here – http://www.myspace.com/babystrange

Oh, we’re half way there!
Well, its a ton up for both me and Andy now. I guess this is the time when we sit back and reflect on the challenge so far. Well, maybe, but quite frankly, right now, I can’t be bothered. I got in at 3.30am this morning having been out drinking in York with the guys from Baby Strange – visitors to our shores for a mad and frantic UK tour – top band, and top guys. Well, I say drinking, I was driving, so it was cokes for me, but still it was a late one.
Briefly though, it’s been a fantastic few months. To see over 100 bands in barely 4 months just seems quite mind boggling to be honest. But it has rarely felt like hard work. We’ve met some cool new friends, opened up our minds to a whole new world of music that we didn’t even know existed, drunk lots of beer, and generally had a ball. Thanks to everyone thats played their part so far. If the next 100 is as fun as the first, then this is gonna be a great year!!
